"We offer effective treatment for hospitality professionals, offered in a respectful, private environment where a recovering server or bartender can also learn skills to manage stress so that they can thrive in their career."
Effective Drug Rehab for Working San Diego Restaurant, Bar, and Hotel Staff
When we celebrated our 10-year Anniversary last October, there was a huge contingent of professionals in attendance to witness our facility get several proclamations from the County of San Diego, our Congressional Representatives, and other local leaders.
This is because our rehab center has always attracted hardworking San Diegans from every walk of life, including those in the restaurant, bar, and hotel industries who treatment to be flexible in order to coordinate with their work schedule.
Founded by our CEO Scott H. Silverman, our facility understands the unique personal and professional pressures that hospitality workers face.
Understanding the Challenges that Hospitality Workers Face
Few industries put their workforce closer to alcohol and drugs, for longer hours, than restaurants, bars, and hotels. Late nights, double shifts, the "shift drink" tradition, and a workplace where everyone around you is drinking make it uniquely difficult to recognize when use has become a problem — let alone step away from it.
According to a national survey from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), workers in the accommodations and food services industry have the highest rate of past-month illicit drug use of any industry in the country, at 19.1%, and the highest rate of past-year substance use disorder, at 16.9%.[1] A separate study of bartenders found that nearly 40% screened positive for harmful alcohol consumption.[2] Beyond substance use, hospitality work brings its own mental health toll: high turnover, inconsistent income, and little to no job protection make stepping away to get help feel like a risk many can't afford to take.
So, it is no surprise that our outpatient drug rehabilitation program, located in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego, has become a trusted landing spot for restaurant, bar, and hotel workers, for whom it is very effective.
Why Hospitality Workers Choose Confidential Recovery
Hospitality professionals value several things about our approach:
- Flexible Scheduling - With nights and weekends sessions available, our programming accommodates the demanding, often unpredictable schedules of restaurant, bar, and hotel staff. We also offer telehealth integration into many of our appointments, allowing participants to join remotely between shifts or while traveling for work.
- Complete Confidentiality -We create a strict atmosphere of respect and privacy. In an industry where word travels fast between restaurants, bars, and hotel staffs, we understand why discretion matters, and we treat every client accordingly.
- Personalized Treatment Approach - Our clinical team utilizes an array of evidence-based practices to help you recover. We also are trained to recognize and address co-occurring issues like depression, anxiety, and trauma (including PTSD). Our success rate with active military and veteran clients has helped us create a great infrastructure for treating trauma with modalities like EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Discreet, Structured, Clinically-Effective Outpatient Recovery
We provide long-term, sustainable treatment for substance abuse disorders. Confidential Recovery is an excellent option for continued treatment and support once individuals have been stabilized in a detox or a residential treatment program.
From alcohol to opioids, our clients receive treatment tailored to their needs. We believe that "one size doesn't fit all" when it comes to treatment approaches. Each individual will participate in the development of their own self-care plan, which is necessary for long-term sobriety and sustainable recovery.

Sustainable Recovery in Our IOP and Outpatient Treatment Programs
During our outpatient process, our clients should be maintaining or striving for complete abstinence. Our outpatient program features the frequent celebration of our clients achieving sobriety milestones. As progress continues, we can gradually "step-down" the level of care to minimize the time commitment in order to shift the client's time and focus back onto their career, family time, and relationships.
- How Long is an Outpatient Drug Program?
The longer that someone in recovery can take part in an outpatient program, the better the likelihood of achieving successful, long-term recovery. Clients typically attend counseling three to five times a week, totaling nine or more hours of weekly treatment.
Therefore, during each week of outpatient participation, a client will have ample support and education to assist them in thriving in their everyday lives, while filling their toolkits with resources and coping mechanisms that will help them live a happy, joyous, and free life.
The longer this participation continues, the better the outcome will be.
Is an Outpatient Program Right for Me?
An outpatient program allows for support to be given while giving the opportunity for the person to be responsible for their recovery and continue their career. IOP programs are well-suited for individuals who are able to be self-sufficient, but want to continue enjoying the support of a recovery system.
Clients in outpatient need to be aware of their emotional state even while away from the treatment center. Those in early recovery from a strong mental and physical addiction might require a higher level of care initially — particularly if going back to work means going back behind a bar.
Outpatient drug programs are best for those who are confident that they can maintain a stable lifestyle during treatment without around-the-clock accountability. Intensive Outpatient Treatment also emphasizes self-management techniques, which matter especially for hospitality workers who can't always avoid being around alcohol on the job. Ideally, those participating in a program such as this will be motivated enough to seek out twelve-step programs to support their recovery efforts.
Get Back on Track With Our Outpatient Program
Confidential Recovery is a great option for those who are "higher functioning" and want a recovery support system while they continue to live at home and pursue their careers and family/parenting responsibilities. Confidential Recovery is also a good 'step-down' in the level of care for those who have done a more traditional drug/alcohol detoxification and residential drug program and have recently returned home (or are in a sober living home). Many of our clients combine our outpatient program with private therapy, or medication assisted treatment.
